The former administrative head of York Region has been named acting CEO of the Toronto Transit Commission.
The TTC board voted to put Bruce Macgregor into the role in a special closed session Aug 28. Macgregor has been working as the deputy CEO since he departed from York Region in 2023.
“Bruce will guide the TTC to keep our city moving while we finalize the appointment of the interim CEO in the coming weeks,“ TTC chair Jamal Myers said on social media.
Former York Region CAO Macgregor departed after 16 years in region's top administrative job last September, with Erin Mahoney succeeding him. Shortly after, Macgregor joined the TTC as a deputy CAO.
Former TTC CEO Rick Leary resigned at the end of June. Leary himself was a former York Region employee, who helped run York Region Transit.
“For many people, a decade in any job also brings with it some self-reflection when it comes to personal and professional goals and objectives,” Leary said in June. “This year I turned 61, and I believe there are some new opportunities and challenges that await me before I fully retire.”
