The Town of St. Marys says it is trying to "brew up some buzz" about its 2024 budget with free coffee and conversation.
Town council will be hosting a 'Coffee with Council' meetup on Saturday, Nov. 4. The informal drop-in event will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to all residents and ratepayers.
The event takes place at The Flour Mill at 6 Water St. S.
"The coffee will be free, and so will the discussion around the budget," the Town stated in a news release.
The idea is to give taxpayers a chance to ask questions and make comments in a casual environment.
Several members of council are planning to attend, including Mayor Al Strathdee.
“We invite all residents to come down, have a hot drink, and chat about the budget,” said Strathdee. “This is a great opportunity to meet your councillors and support a local business.”
The Town hosted a 'Coffee with Council' event this past February after council had met regarding the 2023 budget.
The Town said this time it was seeking feedback earlier in the process to ensure the 2024 budget reflects the wants and needs of ratepayers.
The event is one of several opportunities for the public to provide input on the budget. Council will meet at Town Hall to discuss the budget on Nov. 21 and Dec. 5 at 9 a.m., and Jan. 9 and March 14 at 6 p.m.
Residents can attend the meetings, submit questions in advance, or view the meetings on the Town’s YouTube channel.
